Word of the Day: Illuin – one of the lamps of the Valar, which was created by Aulë at the prayer of Yavanna after the Valar subdued the fires of Melkor. It was raised in the north of Middle-earth, while the other, Ormal, was set to the south and these lights flowed out eventually. Illuin Description
While it is unclear where the name came from, it is thought of as il- (sky) and -luin (blue).
This lamp was the furthest north set on top of the great tower, Helcar. The lights were filled by Varda and hallowed by Manwë, and they were set up by the Valar on the high pillars. They were eventually broken down by Melkor.
