Word of the Day: Isildur – the oldest son of Elendil – who was son of Amandil the last lord of Andúnië. He eventually became the first High King in Exile. It is a Quenya name, meaning ‘Servant of the Moon,’ coming from Ithil (moon) and -dur (servant).
Isildur History and Legacy
After learning from Amandil (his grandpa) that Sauron wanted to cut down Nimloth, he went to Armenelos for a fruit in the tree before it was cut down. He received grievous wounds. Along with Elendil and his sons, he left Numenór during its downfall, which was also when Ar-Pharazôn asked the Great Arnament to assail Aman.
Isildur dwelled in Minas Ithil while ruling the kingdom of Gondor. The Last Alliance of Elves and Men was formed by his father, along with Gil-galad, and they marched to Imladris.
Minas Ithil was captured by Sauron eventually burning the white tree. After Sauron’s defeat, they went into the Barad-dûr which led to a 7 year long siege. Isildur’s line continued, as his son Valandil became the King of Arnor after the War of the Ring.
